Facing Torture after Escape from Labor Camp

wo Falun Gong practitioners in China are in grave danger of being tortured to death, according to a report by the Falun Dafa Information Center.

On August 11, Cui Dejun escaped from Masanjia labor camp with the help of several other Falun Gong practitioners. They took him to the home of Yu Ming, a 37-year old Falun Gong practitioner.

But two days later, Public Security Bureau forces broke into Yu's house, arresting Yu and Cui, and roughing up Yu's family members. Both men are now being held incommunicado in secret detention, and their family and friends fear they will be tortured to death in retaliation for Cui's escape.

In a similar incident in 2004, female Falun Gong practitioner Gao Rongrong escaped from Masanjia and photos of her face that had been severely disfigured by electric batons were circulated around the world. Gao was soon captured and returned to the camp where, according to an Amnesty International report, she was tortured to death in 2005.

Masanjia labor camp is one of the worst in a system of "re-education camps" used by the Chinese regime to torture and punish. Documented torture in these facilities includes severe beatings, rape, shocking the genitals with electric batons, and being forced to squat in small metal cages for months at a time.
