News And Information From Around The World
Our featured video is a conversation with Pablo Fajardo, the lead attorney representing 30,000 indigenous people from the Ecuadorean Amazon in a landmark $27 billion lawsuit against Chevron-Texaco. According to the plaintiffs, the U.S. oil giant dumped more than 18 billion gallons of toxic wastewater into the rainforest since it began operating in the region in 1964, resulting in one of the worst environmental and humanitarian disasters in history. Chevron strongly refutes the claims.
The story of this legal battle - 16 years in the making and considered one of the largest and most controversial environmental lawsuits in history - is the subject of Joe Berlinger's new documentary CRUDE, which opens in New York on September 9.
